Three songs from features released in 2011 were among the nominees vying for Best Song Written for Visual Media in the Grammy Award nominations announced Wednesday night.
Diane Warren's "Born to Be Somebody," sung by Justin Bieber in Never Say Never (Paramount), was among the six nominees in the category. "So Long" from Disney's Winnie The Pooh by Zooey Deschanel and "Where The River Goes" from Paramount's Footloose by Zac Brown, Wyatt Durrette, Drew Pearson, and Anne Preven also made the cut. The three 2011 songs will compete with 2010 Oscar song nominee, "I See the Light," from Disney's Tangled and "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me" from Burlesque (Screen Gems), another 2010 feature film.
About the Blog
There are many fine Oscarologists, pundits, bloggers, and film journalists who actively predict the contenders for Academy Awards in every category all year long --
Anne Thompson , and
Jeffrey Wells --
and their sites have lively discussions, podcasts, and perspectives on nomination possibilities. While this site does not intend to compete with their audiences or insider knowledge, I do want to use it to publish my own guesses about Oscar's next roster of nominated achievements and to track the award season's ongoing competition, nominee announcements, and national and regional film critic organization awards.
Dennis Holly is a film buff who has written about the Oscars in Variety and The New York Post.
